I have been thinking about this for a few months now, but only discussed it with my friends before.
This current era is mostly the age of AI, when this technology, which is in its infancy itself, is being trusted to do literally everything the human brain was - and still is - able to do perfectly fine. Artificial Intelligence - the two words naming these strings of code - symbolize the object that they strive to be on the same level with - human brain.
People trust it to do everything, from the kind of tasks it was initially supposed to help with, like complicated calculations, to...very simple, everyday decisions. To art, music, memes. Something that was supposed to stay in human hands.
Which...led to some unpleasant consequences.
The science fiction movies and books made us believe that a machine can't make mistakes, that it was this perfect man-made creation which could assist us in medicine, manual labor...hell, I even saw a few science fiction cartoons with robots working as school teachers.
In reality...AI is infiltrating literally every aspect of our lives, where a human can possibly worry about making a mistake, choosing the wrong thing, etc.
It's not just science. Not just an assistive technology anymore. It's a destruction tool that is used to prey on vulnerable, insecure people. Those who have been told since they were children, that any imperfections, anywhere, are bad.
We've been punished for the tiniest errors since we were born, and the Big Tech™ takes advantage of the insecurities that emerged from it.
Of beginner artists that were bullied for posting bad art on the internet.
Of kids that hate the way they look on camera.
Of basically anybody. With any sort of fear.
AI grows because of insecurities. Because of people that believe the tales about robots replacing them if they don't "adapt", don't join the club as well.
AI gave bullies more power, because now they can walk around and yap about how you nerds will become irrelevant in the next couple decades because, apparently, feeding a random string of words to a computer and watching it spit out something that you don't even care about...is the future.
Sure, it seemed to be fascinating, a cool toy to mess around with in the past...now it's something that people put all their trust into, and even use it instead of a therapist.
What's our problem? We trust it as if it's perfect and can't make mistakes, because that's how science fiction depicted AI.
In fact, AI does make mistakes. We can't put it in charge of technical support and call it a day, thinking that all our problems are gonna be solved.
We think that a piece of code would cover up our flaws, but instead receive something that is devoid of even a little bit of life. Life, something true, something...human.
We should bring "humanness" back. Not invent some new AI models that would be more successful at imitating human feelings, but...let people know that it doesn't matter how bad your latest song is, how shitty your first childhood drawings are, how "uncool" you look on camera and so on.
What matters is how much you care about these awful and unprofessional things.
Because if you don't care...what's the point?
