Holy hell, good morning.
Or not morning? Doesn't matter.
I almost broke down in tears because my favorite Finnish band1 came back with new music. After 1.5 years of hiatus.
Feels kinda strange and silly to cry right now, when just a week or two ago you were laughing with your fellow fans, joking about the band never coming back because they've got their own lives now, families...and so on.
But who cares? I'm in tears regardless of what I was doing and saying at that time.
This post isn't just about that silly little now-five-piece-band. I'd say, it's also about how my brain suddenly pointed out that I shouldn't have been scared of change so much.
Maybe it's not as noticeable as it should be, because my ADHD and its hyperactive part tend to overpower that fear, but it's still there.
When Blind Channel went on hiatus, and when its now-former vocalist Joel Hokka left, I was scared that if they come back, I wouldn't like their new music. A lot of people were scared and confused, actually. But it's a familiar case — a band changes vocalists, the sound becomes different as well..
There was no outrage in our tiny circle, though. Almost. We knew the remaining vocalist — Niko — would definitely do what he can, but were hesitant to hope for too much.
This new release...I don't know, I can't talk about other people because I'm not them, but my personal opinion? It changed. Very much.
I wasn't sure what I would think about their current sound now that Niko is the sole voice of their music at first. Right now I have so much hope for them, and kinda feel bad for underestimating someone like him.
I mean, he's a great artist and musician, why did I feel like the music won't fit my standards anymore? Probably because I didn't know what to expect yet.
Now that I have heard the two new songs2, I feel confident enough to not be scared of change. Maybe not in general, but at least in Blind Channel's music specifically.
What have I learned about myself in this specific situation?
Change itself isn't scary — it's the unpredictability and the unknown that's scary. That's what I know about myself now, especially when I'm trying to heal.

Love you. 🩷
